Cognitive Hypnotherapy

What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

Cognitive hypnotherapy first and foremost, is a way of thinking, more than a specific letter by letter therapy. Not everything works on everyone, and we certainly don’t believe in labelling people. This is because people put more emphasis on a particular area of their issue e.g. their anxiety or fear and that’s why people with the same issue do not react to the same treatment.

Cognitive hypnotherapy takes elements and principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt, Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), as well as the evolutionary psychology model that humans run on simple patterns of emotion, and therefore the emotion comes before the thought.

Success rates - 71% of QCH clients with anxiety and depression reported an improvement in their condition compared to 42% in other kinds of therapies such as counselling and CBT. These are the results of Quest’s very first pilot study in the Medical Review Journal September 2015.

Neuroplasticity

What is NLP, Neuroplasticity and how is it linked to Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

Labelling people can lead to the client thinking they’re stuck that way forever, when that’s not the case.

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a way of changing someone’s thoughts and behaviours to help them achieve desired outcomes. It may reduce anxiety and improve overall wellbeing, which matches what we aim to achieve in Cognitive Hypnotherapy.

Neuroplasticity

Do you think you’re unable to change your way of thinking? Do you think your habits are set in stone?

If the answer is yes, then please allow me to explain why this isn’t the case with the word, “neuroplasticity”.

If you’d like me to send you a very short video explaining neuroplasticity further then please feel free to ask as it’s quite a fascinating watch, and maybe it could give you a little “eureka moment”.

For years I’d been filleting mackerel in the way my college lecturer showed me. Until one day the kitchen porter at the gastro pub showed me a much faster way which blew my mind. As soon as I was shown a different way a new pathway in my brain was formed. From that day onwards I started using the new technique instead of the old one which I’d been using for years. Now I can’t even remember what I used to do as the old pathway in my brain has deteriorated.

This is neuroplasticity. Your brain can be moulded and shaped. You can form new habits and get rid of the old ones no matter how long you’ve had those habits or have been stuck in a particular pattern of behaviour. All it takes is willingness and motivation on the part of the client.
